Cuisine of OAXACA

Often considered the gastronomic capital of Mexico, Oaxaca is perhaps best known for its moles (sauces made from a complex mix of group up indigenous ingredients such as peppers, chocolate, and nuts). Mole negro is the iconic one, but Oaxaca is famous for six others. Tlayudas, a large fried tortilla covered in lard, beans, cheese, and usually a meat or vegetable, is a local favorite. As are tamales oaxaqueños and caldo di piedra, a comforting vegetable soup. And, you can’t forget about the stellar chocolate and coffee, both grown locally.

La Dolce Vigna provides an authentic and immersive experience in culture, art, food, and wine beyond any experience I’ve had on other luxury private trips. Leslie’s investment in building relationships with the local community makes it feel like you are visiting friends and family.

MEET YOUR HOST: LESLIE ROSA

Sommelier + Owner of La Dolce Vigna

After a decade of working in the art world for eminent institutions and artists in New York and London, I moved to Italy, fell in love with the diversity of Italian wine and became a certified sommelier with the Associazione Italiana Sommelier. As an art-curator-turned-sommelier, I founded my company to offer trips that give an in-depth look at the history and culture of a particular region through the lens of local wine, spirits, and food. Over the years, my portfolio of trips has grown from Italy and California to include other places I love: Mendoza, Argentina and Oaxaca, Mexico. When not leading tours, you can find me doing pop-up wine tastings, writing for the Slow Wine Guide, or getting lost someplace beautiful with my watercolor set.
